The living legend playback singer Manna Dey was born on 1st
May, 1920 as Prabohdh Chandra Dey. He started his career in playback singing
with the film ‘Tamanna. Manna Dey has
sung several songs and shared the limelight with some legends such as Mohammed
Rafi, Talat Mehmood, Kishor Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Kishor Kumar etc. Since
childhood, he showed a penchant towards music and was encouraged by his uncle
K.C.Dey, who was a renowned music teacher and working with New Theatre. Manna
Dey started to receive proper training in music from K. C.Dey and Ustad Dabir
Khan at Calcutta. Later he started to received training in classical music from
Ustad Aman Ali Khan and Abdul Rahman Khan. He worked as an assistant music
director under K.C.Dey and S.D.Burman. His memorable songs are Upar Gagan
Vishal, Aye Mere Pyare Watan, Pyar Hua Iqrar Hua, Tu Pyar Ka Sagar Hai, Laga
Chunri Mein Dagh, Poochho Na Kaise Rain Bitayee, Phool Gendwa Na Maro, Aye Bhai
Zara Dekh Kar Chalo and many mores. Beside of Hindi songs he has sung thousand
of songs in different languages and given stage performances throughout the
world. Now he lives in Banglore.
